Spa/Hamman

In Morocco the most relaxing and comfortable way for people to pamper themselves after an exhaustive week is a Moroccan steam bath followed by a relaxing massage.

The Moroccan bath, known in Arabic simply as hammam is a tradition spread across the Middle East. It has also been known as the must-do ritual before a girl gets married. Farida, the spa owner of Club Moving (situated 3km from The Missouri Mansion), explained that the Moroccan bath serves various purposes. “The Moroccan bath is done to clean and soften the skin,” she said explaining that it also helps to relax and helps blood circulation, the veins and joints in the body. It also releases all the pain from the body and the stress of the whole working week. There are also a range of other treatments available at Club Moving.

Golf

Situated approximately 5 km from the Missouri Mansion is the Meknes Royal Golf Course. Created in 1971, the course is set in the heart of the imperial city, surrounded by the green tiled roofs and minarets of the medina, in a garden teeming with flowers, olive, apricot, orange, plum and palm trees. The entrance is a masterpiece, with its finely decorated double doors and blue mosaic fountain. This golf course is embedded in history and has an incomparable design. There are sculpted windows and niches, walkways and crenelated towers, making a golfer go back in time while you enjoy a round of golf on this intriguing course. There is also a second golf course in the city of Fes (40km). The Fes Royal Golf Club has perhaps the most beautiful setting in Morocco. The course is set in open grounds and built with the natural contours of the terrain. It is unique because it is built right at the heart of the imperial city of the sultan Moulay Ismail. Surrounded by flower gardens and fruit-trees, the course boasts stunning views of the surrounding fertile countryside and often the peaks of the Atlas Mountains can be seen. The course is very green with thick woodland in areas and certainly more than its fair share of bunkers - the largest one being 1,200 square metres!

Nightlife

Meknes has a vibrant nightlife diverse enough to cater for someone who fancies a quiet drink and a shisha or for someone who wishes to dance the night away into the small hours. There are a number of bars and clubs where you can enjoy live traditional music or if something more up tempo is your choice then are also numerous venues playing more contemporary music.

Food

Moroccan food is extremely diverse thanks to Morocco’s interaction with other cultures and nations over the centuries. Morocco produces a large range of Mediterranean fruits and vegetables and even some tropical ones. Be sure to help yourself to any of the fresh fruit growing in the gardens at the Missouri Mansion. Common meats include mutton, lamb, beef, chicken, camel and in particular seafood.

Characteristic flavourings include dried fruit, unrefined olive oil and lemon pickle. At the Missouri Mansion you can either have the choice of having our fully qualified chef prepare you a authentic meal or choose from one of the multiple nearby restaurants at an extremely affordable price. In addition to this be sure to sample some of the traditional market food which is named ‘sha-waa’. This menu mainly consists of spiced and barbecued chicken, turkey, lamb or beef and is perfect for a quick snack.
